what makes us different

We have been operating for many years in Sydney as a training course creator and executive and professional training provider. We are now also a boutique teacher training college and language school.

We've created English language courses in functional and industry-specific areas for universities, business colleges and language schools that have been delivered to thousands of learners in many countries, and our online content has been used by many more than this to help them to communicate better, or achieve better exam results.

Our owners, management team and head trainers have been working as English teachers, business trainers, examiners, and in various professions in Australia and abroad for many years and are excited to bring their common values and professional acumen together to create a training college that does things better by setting high goals and standards, and working hard to ensure they are achieved.

Every teaching and training organisation wants to be a great teaching and training organisation, so what makes us different?

There are a number of answers to this question.

Firstly, we know that learning needs to be engaging, and which means it usually needs to be interesting and fun for it to be deep learning. If it is not deep learning, you are going to forget what you have learned almost immediately (as in, tomorrow). We work hard to reinforce learning. Our learning environments are full of peer-directed learning, based around projects and case studies, where issues and problems are discussed (either individually, or more commonly in collaboration with other learners) and solutions are identified, elaborated upon, then communicated.

Secondly, our English language training in professional short courses or our larger general and business English courses engage our learners in a lot of group activities where they socialise and are compelled to use the language with their peers. We do a lot of activities which are free or cheap, like playing sport (golf, surfing/ paddle boarding, walking/ running), bushwalking, having barbecues at the beach (even in winter this is great), or attending events. It is great for learners' communicative proficiency to get out of the classroom and great for developing relationships through a common interest.

Thirdly, we know how to create an atmosphere in our learning environments where our students/ learners are connected to each other, feel safe so they can push their boundaries and take communicative risks. This last aspect is absolutely critical for learning. Of course, we do entry and diagnostic tests like any training organisation, but our students generally demonstrate competency not by memorising grammar or vocabulary for a test (which is not deep learning and is quickly forgotten), but by completing projects where their competence is on display in the deliverables they produce, such as reports they write, promotional campaigns they compile, television commercials they design and shoot, policies for best practice they construct, and videoed presentations they deliver. Most project deliverables our learners produce are very clear, tangible evidence of improvement.

Finally, we are committed to our shared goals of outstanding design and delivery of courses, so that our learners develop their ability to do amazing things in English, whether that is to teach it to others, or use it to make a positive difference in their lives and others' lives. With the new direction of the business, nothing has changed for us except we are now delivering new courses, and our outstanding trainers/ teachers are working for us, rather than at other language schools and training organisations. Our college has no more than 12 learners in each cohort, and we will never turn into a big language school factory, with corporate smiles and policies, and business KPI's that interfere with our learners' outcomes.

Our goal is to have recurring business from returning students (a year or more into the future) and to thrive off referrals from our family of students and learners. We want all of our students to be advocates for us, telling those who ask them about their course with us how beneficial it has been, and how positive their life change has been with our help.

If all of this sounds a little idealistic, and therefor sounds unrealistic, you need to experience learning with us. Our job as professionals becomes really easy when we care about you and care about your goals and outcomes. Everything stems from that.

That attitude and approach to our work makes us different.
